The Manitoba International Education Stream (IES) will help you start a career in Manitoba and contribute to the local economy after graduation. There are three options available to IES participants: Graduate Internship Pathway, Career Employment Pathway, and International Student Entrepreneur Pilot.
Manitoba is one of the best provinces in Canada for PR! The Manitoba IES program offers an alternative pathway to permanent residency. Even if your studies weren’t related to your new career or job, the IES may still provide you with an opportunity to remain in Canada and work.
The three options under IES for post-graduation are a one-year Graduate Internship Pathway, 2-year Career Employment Pathway, and a 12-month pilot program for International Student Entrepreneurs.
After graduation, foreign graduates can access a pathway to permanent residence through an employer-specific stream under Manitoba’s PNP. The Career Employment Pathway is meant to encourage and facilitate employers to provide meaningful work opportunities for international graduates in Manitoba who have completed their post-secondary studies and are working towards meeting their permanent residency requirements. For example, by being on a Canadian Post Graduate Work Permit and advancing their careers in the field that they studied.
Foreign students with a graduate degree from an eligible institution may qualify to apply for nomination as part of Manitoba’s provincial Nominee Program (PNP) if they find employment with a participating employer.
Another reason why Manitoba is the best province in Canada for PR is thanks to its International Student Entrepreneur Pilot. Under the pilot, Manitoba graduates with a permanent job offer will be eligible for a temporary work permit. Instead of needing to go through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, they can apply for a Canadian Post Graduate Work Permit. Once they have fulfilled the terms of their Business Performance Agreement, they will be nominated for permanent residency. Students who graduate with at least a 70 percent average in the year before starting their business in Manitoba will be invited to apply.
Canadian provinces are eager to attract international students who graduate with master’s and doctorate degrees—especially when they express an interest in staying in Canada after their studies. The Graduate Internship Pathway is a program that expedites nomination for foreign master’s and doctorate graduates through internships. Students must commit to working for two years in Manitoba once they’ve received their nomination, but if you can secure your employment, it may be worth it: recent participants reported that over 80 percent of them were offered permanent jobs.
Apply for permanent residency through the Manitoba International Express Stream in three easy steps:
The process typically takes six months or less. This is a great processing time as getting permanent residency through the MPNP is limited as there are only 500 spaces available every year under the Post-graduate Work Stream.
Manitoba has some of the best post-secondary institutions. Studying in Manitoba will afford you the opportunity to get a Canadian Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) and then apply for permanent residency through the Manitoba International Express Stream. This is why you could say that Manitoba is the best province in Canada for PR.
Graduates from other provinces of Canada may not be eligible under this stream but may be eligible under the renewed Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream. However, graduates of the renewed Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream (SWM) must have strong ties to the province in other ways and meet Manitoba’s minimum language proficiency.
